Tracing the history of Bagnegrole

"Archives attest that Bagnegrole area has been dwelled in since prehistoric times and also during gallo-roman period. Sometimes pieces of flint or pottery are found when we work the soil. Traces of fire-place, steps or walls appear here and there in the property.

The mantel piece of « la Maison des Arcades » is dated 17th century and some of the buildings. The big house, so-called Manor House is almost fortified on its three strong arcades with walls of more than 3 feet.

Bagnegrole in the 17th century owned several farms on an estate covering about 600 hectares. Being on the road between Bordeaux and Souillac, the estate became a coaching inn. It is the reason why we gave the name ' La Petite Forge ' to the small house where we found 3m long bellows a forge with carved stones. The room upstairs was the place where the blacksmith lived and the antique "potager" (stone used as stove) on which he cooked is still visible.

The Revolution certainly caused great prejudice to this family of minor nobility who then merely cultivated the land and look after their livestock. At the entrance, the porch is dated from 1789, like most of them in the aera when the new revolutionary decrees abolished the tax on porches and windows. "
